FORTINET Security Advisory

Advisory Summary
⛳🔎 ⚠️ Multiple Arbitrary File Read/Write via SQL Injection (CWE-89)
FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, FortiManager Cloud, and FortiAnalyzer Cloud are affected by an SQL Injection weakness (improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command). With a low-privileged user, an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary commands through crafted requests—impacting confidentiality and potentially enabling file-level compromise.
—
- High severity (CVSS 7.9) indicates meaningful exploitability and impact.
- Arbitrary command execution can cascade into: service disruption, configuration tampering, and lateral movement opportunities within management-plane trust boundaries.
- Management platforms (FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer) are high-value targets because they often control policy, telemetry pipelines, and automation workflows.
—
- Unauthorized command execution from crafted SQLi payloads
- Arbitrary file read/write potential, which increases likelihood of credential exposure and tampering with logs/config artifacts
- Privilege abuse even when the attacker starts as “low privileged,” reducing attacker effort
—
- restrict administrative access paths (IP allowlisting/VPN-only)
- ensure web/admin interfaces are not exposed broadly
- monitor for spikes in request error rates and anomalous sessions
